Having already released the news that Paul Merton will once again feature at the Frome Festival, the programme for 2008 is now near completion, and several celebrity names have been added to the bill.Another comic genius, Ken Dodd, returns to the Memorial Theatre at festival time, no doubt keeping audiences in hysterics into the small hours.
Another highlight at the Memorial will be the festival finale on the final Sunday, July 13, featuring world renowned cellist Julian Lloyd Webber.
Having already booked Courtney Pine, the jazz saxophonist, for an appearance, Jan Ayres, a regular promoter at the Cheese and Grain Hall, has delivered a fantastic package of events during the 10-day festival.
Confirmed acts include one of the biggest stars in British folk music, Seth Lakeman, and the beautiful jazz vocals of singer and Radio 2 broadcaster, Clare Teal. Hot on the heels of his recent success with the newly-revived Squeeze, singer-songwriter Glenn Tilbrook will perform, as will the legendary '70s band 10cc.
World renowned performers in their respective fields include Indian singer Sheila Chandra and Spanish pianist Maria Angel Garcia, who will both perform in St John's Church.
Among classical highlights will be a Gala performance in the Great Hall, at Longleat, of Walton's Facade, which features the poetry of Edith Sitwell, read by Stephanie Cole, making a welcome return to the festival.
Further details of events in the festival at Rook Lane and The Merlin Theatre are to be released soon, along with a special series of concerts and shows at the Masonic Hall.
